Indonesia Has Two Economic Issues
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said Indonesia currently has two economic problems stemming from the country. Two problems it became a challenge to deal with Indonesia.
In his speech on energy savings at the State Palace, Tuesday, May 29, 2012, evening, Yudhoyono said the first problem is the fuel subsidy and an enormous amount of power and continue to increase from year to year.
"In 2010, subsidies for fuel and electricity has reached Rp 140 trillion. And in 2011 increased to Rp 256 trillion," Yudhoyono said.
According to him, due to the high subsidies rising oil prices and rising fuel and electricity use by the public, public transport, and industry. "The amount of fuel and electricity subsidies result in reduced ability of governments to build infrastructure such as roads, bridges, irrigation, seaports and airports," said Yudhoyono.
The second problem is the budget amount of fuel and electricity subsidies, which could increase the state budget deficit because revenues are smaller than state spending. The budget deficit must be closed and one way to search for a new loan or debt.
"This way is certainly not our choice. We do not want the debt burden continues to rise and ultimately our children and grandchildren," said Yudhoyono. "What we want to do is lower the ratio and the debt incurred from time to time."
